About Halifax Humane Society:
The Halifax Humane Society is a 501 (c) (3) private nonprofit organization servicing the Greater Daytona Beach area in Volusia County, Florida. The Halifax Humane Society Thrift Store in Ormond Beach, has been in business since 1998, and serves as one of many award winning fundraising programs of the Society. All of the proceeds raised at the store benefit our animal welfare programs. The Thrift Store was recognized as winner of the Hometown News Reader's Choice awards in the "Best Non-Profit", "Best Thrift Store" and "Best Used Furniture Store" categories by its readers for the last 5 years. The News-Journal also recognized the store as the best Thrift Store for the last 4 years.
SUMMARY: If you are customer service oriented, a team player, have a great work ethic and have a passion for helping animals, then this position may be right for you! This position assists the store management in all aspects of the store's day-to-day operations and performs donation pick-ups. Additional duties include accepting, sorting, cleaning, pricing, displaying donated items, performing check out functions with customers and balancing daily register receipts. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Tuesdays and Saturdays are mandatory work days for this position. *A clean driving record and successful completion of a drug test are mandatory conditions for employment.*
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
-Is punctual and courteous to donors in performing all donation pick-ups.
-Responsible for vehicle and trailer safety inspections before and after pick-ups. -Responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of truck and trailer.
-Follows all guidelines as stated in the HHS Company Vehicle Policy.
-Ensure a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines and modelling safe work practice.
-Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, client, animals or the organization at risk.
-Maintain and promote a positive public image standard relevant to HHS.
-Represent the Society in a positive manner by professional personal appearance.
-Maintain cleanliness of store, including organization of storage rooms and parking area surrounding the store.
-Develop a retail skill set by providing exceptional high quality customer service.
-Is accountable to store management for accuracy of sales revenue and funds to be deposited.
-Help promote fundraising activities and solicit support of agency overall.
-Interact with co-workers and volunteers in an efficient and courteous manner to ensure a cooperative team environment.
-Willing and cooperatively performs other duties as assigned by proper authority, that may not be in the specific job description.
-Is flexible with scheduling and is available when away from the facility as needed to meet the needs of the organization.
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Any acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in sales and customer service is helpful.
-Must possess a valid and unrestricted Florida driver's license with a clean DMV record for the past 3 years.
-Must pass a drug test.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * *

-Ability to safely drive an 18 foot box truck.
-Must be able to distinguish between salable and non-salable donations to the store.
-Must be able to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with in-kind donors.
-Must possess good verbal and written communication skills including excellent ability to articulate program, vision and purpose of HHS.
-Ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion, correctly and in a timely manner.
-Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
-Must be comfortable working in a collaborative team-leadership environment.
-Must be skilled in arranging appealing, effective store displays to promote sales.
-Must be able to use a cash register and follow accounting and inventory procedures accurately.

Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle high levels of stress. Position requires excellent organizational skills, as well as high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be dependable, have proven ability to meet deadlines and follow detailed instructions without need of constant support.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * *
Requires the ability to be physically active during the entire shift. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/and or move up to 100 pounds. The position also requires the ability to withstand working in the elements such as extreme heat, rain and other weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
